Princess Alexandra, cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, visits the new federal capital of Al-Ittihad, Aden, South Arabia on the 7th December 1961. Al-Ittihad (meaning Unity) was founded in 1959 as the capital of the Protectorate of South Arabia under British rule, and renamed Madinat ash-Sha'b after Yemen was founded in 1967. Digitised cine film (standard 8 no sound) by Fred Collinson, taken in Aden where he lived with his family and worked at the BP oil refinery from 1957-1962. There are other Aden clips on this channel.
